Unfortunately, those that buy these types of products are not usually aware of these issues until it is too late.

These products are almost exclusively found when sourcing from non-authorized sources.
How can I avoid purchasing these kinds of products?
The most common ways of avoiding these issues are to source from authorized suppliers and/or to have your products tested prior to your assembly.
How often are counterfeit and substandard devices discovered?
While it is hard to quantify, it is extremely common to find products have arrived but do not meet your internal quality specifications.
Experts estimate that 10% to 15% of the supply chain are counterfeit however, some believe it to be as high as 15% to 20% in recent years.
